Recap!

The Fairy Godparent idea was smart we thought, it confused a few people. A rumour was even started that we had gotten married at a registry earlier that day and didn't want to tell anyone because we're broke (everyone has an uncle like that don't they?) The man and I kinda spent almost 3/4's of the night in his office trying to get the wings to work. I started getting fed up and upset that he could have done them ages ago and so I was only seen for the last hour. But the party girl had a good time and that's all that matters!

We made the LED's turn on by using ourselves as currents. When we touched or kissed the lights would light up, wires were running through my bodice and down under my corset which I paid dearly for. I'd forgotten about my reaction to cheap metals. He used the inner guts of a Cat 5 cable (usually used for internet/cabling) as the connection to my skin and I broke out on my arm and on my chest for the next week! So he now knows that this little black duck will only be able to wear pure gold, silver, platinum or white gold :P

The little sisters play was very good. The man couldn't make it along to the play as he caught my cold (sharing is caring right?). Out of all the practices and the 3 previous shows she did the corset was fine, on the last show one of the bones was starting to peek through. I found her 'backstage' in the classrooms behind the  hall and saw the problem, located a stapler on a girls desk and 'click'. Fixed it. Legend that I am. My sister and brother in law with my niece weren't there for all of it. Little miss 6 month old didn't want to hang out with us at dinner or at the play and proceeded to howl and whinge the whole time! With her dad she was a demon, put her with mum and she was fine. She has those two wrapped around her little finger.

I'll have to get some photos of the corset finished, I did it in a rush and drove down to hand it over for her first rehearsal minutes before she had to go inside.

Fairy Godparents

My Man's sister is having her big 3-0 party and she wants colour! Well, I have so many costumes lying around and they aren't all that colourful. I am hooked on the idea of using my Queen Victoria dress somehow and after a chat with my man and his wanting to use bits from the computers he's pulled apart recently, specifically the LED lights, we came up with the funky idea to use the light as colour and have a sneaky way of turning the lights on.

So I'll be a fairy godmother and he'll be a fairy The Godfather. The whole Italian thing coming through again.

Updates to come on this one. Very exciting!

Steampunk Waist Corset

I finished it. With probably minutes to spare. I should have been working on it on the Friday and Saturday nights, but anyway, I did it.

I was making soup with my man's Nan, this old school Italian soup and while that was cooking I was hammering away at the eyelets, cause I sure as heck didn't want to be doing those at midnight inside a house on a cold night! We had a late night and so I got up at 9:30am on the Sunday  knowing I had to leave to meet little sister at school (45 minutes away) at 1pm. The last panel was made up in probably 20 minutes! I quickly made up the cable ties bones and threaded the eyelets.

And after all that, it was only principles needed! So she didn't need it then anyway! So I drove around and talked to mum for a while who was parked around the reserve park thing. Took off home and got ready for my work mates Hens High Tea (which was to die for!). I think I'm finally come down from the sugar high.

And now I have another project. When I get on a roll, I get on a roll.

Pictures to come later of the finished corset. As I finished with only minutes to spare I didn't have time to take any photos. Mum assured me she will get some, cause the camera is constantly attached to her hand anyway.

It's cut

And it's not emo either. I have some proof that I'm doing something. But I'm getting these ridiculous headaches pretty much everyday and it's hampering my sewing efforts. The thing will go together quick, that's what I tell myself now!

Anyway. Proof!

I'm going to wallow in self pity now because of this headache.

Underbust Corset

My sister is involved in a school play, 'Godspell', and they have tweaked it from the 70's to Steampunk. And there is a TARDIS involved as well when Jesus is resurrected. She is in the choir and tells me she has a sneaky part as well. Anyway, she needs a corset and her and mum were looking at Etsy for a corset. It would have taken far too long and it was going to be made from upholstery fabric. Yeah nah.

She is a large girl, will be under stage lights and in upholstery fabric. I don't think so. I offered my services and we're embarking on a bit of a curve. I'm using Butterick B5371 which I think is going to need a little altering, mainly just elongating it. I'm using corset E. Very tempted to make myself one later with the left overs, cause you know, there is always left overs :P

Amy Pond Costume

Well we had my sisters 21st on the weekend. I made a passable Amy Pond I think, and AS did well enough for Rory. I'll snitch photos from mum as all I have are the ones before the party I took of me.

The 'police jacket' is a puff jacket I found at the Salvo's for $7, I bought some kiddies dress up police costume bib thing, cut out the police chequers and the 'police' bit for the back of the jacket and just glued it on with craft glue. I did have to peg it down though. I had a skirt that was knee length, so I safety pinned it up higher. I bought the hat from a cheapy store for about $3. I borrowed AS's belt. The cuffs came with the kiddie costume and the thigh highs were $16 from Bra's N Things. Funny thing was though, the first pair I bought already had a ladder in them, managed to exchange them for a new pair no hassle.

So there ya have it. Now, pictures!

Power cords and Cupcakes

I have my dress all cut out. Albeit it about 2 weeks ago it was all cut out, I got all motivated on Thursday night to start sewing up the seams as AS was out for most of the night. I lift the 1930's machine up to the table, unlock her and ..... no power cord. I seem to scare them away. Who ever used it last didn't put the cord back wrapped around under the lid. I thought Mum was playing silly buggers with me, turns out she wasn't. She found it and has it at home. So it looks like I'll be taking a trip down to pick it up, might abuse her oven while I'm there too. Need some more bread and cupcakes for AS! Had these awesome flourless chocolate cupcakes in Canberra!
